The Langston Hughes Performing Arts Center (LHPAC), is dedicated to celebrating, nurturing, presenting and preserving African American performing arts and cultural legacies.
Experiences at LHPAC lead people of all backgrounds to value the arts as a key to understanding our culturally pluralistic world. Those who spend time at LHPAC connect more strongly with their own personal creativity and feel encouraged to further develop their sense of curiosity and discovery through the arts.
For youth, especially African American youth, LHPAC provides a place where the performing arts are a key to developing knowledge and life long skills that will serve them in the world at large while creating cultural understanding and pride. Educational opportunities at LHPAC open doors to acquiring skills in the performing arts, from initial exploration to vocational paths.
For African American adults, LHPAC is a cultural oasis where community is reaffirmed and reinforced, and bridges within and beyond that community are built through the powerful medium of performing arts. Formal programs as well as informal relationships make LHPAC a place of authentic African American creative expression and connection. For African American performing artists LHPAC is a touchstone home where artistic excellence meets opportunity.
Our historic Central District building provides a home for creative and collaborative learning for the greater Seattle community. We are valued as a place for personal growth, artistic energy and community connection.
