Advocacy isn't just petitions and t-shirts anymore. Technology has made high quality filmmaking affordable and accessible, and social media makes small scale distribution doable. In this session you will see two different examples of how young people can change the way we see the world through their films.
Now You Know: Stories from BU's Hothouse Productions Hothouse Productions is Boston University's student-run, client-driven production company. In 2013, Hothouse teamed up with The NO Project to produce a PSA aimed at creating global awareness of modern slavery. Moderated by Barry Nolan, with producer Isabelle Jones.
An Inconvenient Youth, with Slater Jewell-Kemper An Inconvenient Youth captures the untold stories of the rise of the global youth climate movement and kids on the front lines of climate change. Slater Jewell-Kemper, the director, started filming her story when she was just 15. Due to the urgency of the climate crisis, as she has produced her film she has released short clips to classrooms and film festivals around the world, building a world-wide audience. Also featuring Alina Pokhrel, her Nepali subject and youth movement activist.
