Kung Pao Kosher Comedy Presents... Comedy Returns to El Rio!
Now in its 5th year, this monthly (every 2nd Monday of the month) multicultural comedy show features an eclectic mix of Bay Area comedians and beyond. It takes place at El Rio, where SF comedian/comedy producer, Lisa Geduldig (Kung Pao Kosher Comedy) began her stand up comedy career 24 years ago.
This month you'll hear the comedy stylings of: Micia Mosely, Sampson McCormick, Nick Leonard, Emily Epstein White, and Lisa Geduldig
Micia Mosely is a comedian, actress, and educator who has been praised by newyorktheatre.com as "smart, timely and also downright hilarious." This bi-coastal black lesbian and socio-political comic earned her Ph.D. from UC Berkeley and developed an award-nominated one-woman show, "Where My Girls At?" Since 2008, Micia's stand up comedy ha sbeen a hit nationally, including performances in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, the DC Hip-Hop Theatre Festival, and New York City. Micia is currently writing her new play, "X-Marks the Spot."
Sampson McCormick is an award-winning, black, openly gay stand up comedian, writer and activist. He has produced three comedy albums, written two books, and won several awards including most recently the Gillard-Alston Award for Contributions to LGBT Youth Empowerment. He was named Love from the Sound Stage's Best Comedian (2011), Velocity Magazine's Best Comedian in 2009 and has been featured in publications across the country including The Advocate and the Washington Post and has appeared on BET, VH1, MTV and The Own Network. His comedy is highly personal as he discusses a difficult childhood that included growing up black and gay amidst an abusive stepfather, homelessness, homophobia in religion, and bullying and domestic violence. Sampson has been invited to the White House for his contributions to society through the arts and has worked alongside notable entertainers such as Patti LaBelle, Aretha Franklin, Whoopi Goldberg, and RuPaul. www.sampsoncomedy.com
Nick Leonard started performing stand up at the beloved Josie's Cabaret in The Castro and has appeared all over the U.S. His comedy graced the prestigious 2004 Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland. That same year, he was also voted one of San Francisco's top 10 comics by Karma.com. The former Cosmonaut and International Bon Vivant has been the producer of the long-running gay comedy showcase, QComedy, which is currently on hiatus.
Emily Epstein White performs her magical brand of standup all around New York City, the Northeast, and the West Coast. She has been featured in the New York Underground Comedy Festival, the 360 Comedy Festival, the Ladies are Funny Festival in Austin, TX, the She-Devil Comedy Festival, the Boston Globe, gawker.com, and she was on Good Morning America.
Lisa Geduldig is a local comic and comedy producer who's the creator, producer, and MC of a variety of comedy shows including Kung Pao Kosher Comedy (which celebrated its 20th anniversary last December); Funny Girlz: A Smorgasbord of Women Comedians; The Color of Funny: A Multi-Cultural Comedy Show; and A Muslim, A Mormon, and A Jew Walk into A Bar: The Comedy of Religion.
Must be over 21 as it's a bar. Tickets on sale on a sliding scale basis: $7 to $20.
