Annual Members Showcase Concert
Every year, members of the FMSH contribute their varied and impressive talents to produce a very special concert. This year we have a wide variety of our gifted member local artists who will show us their talents. The outstanding group of star artists for this year's concert are (listed in scheduled performance order):

John Taylor
He writes songs about his life experiences in the Adirondacks and the Great Smokey Mountains in East Tennessee.  He's said "As I take you down my road, maybe you'll think of your road too. You might be surprised at what you come up with. It's a trip worth taking and it can fill your heart and set you free"

Lora Kendall
Lora has been singing all her life and is an accomplished vocalist and instrumentalist (violin, guitar, piano).  From being the lead singer in a number of rock and roll bands, notably Long Island Sound and in a life out West, the band Gabriel. Today, Lora focuses more on "Folk", "Country", "Americana" styles; she is a member of the fabulous Tornado Alley band and an old-time country band >The Red River Ramblers together  with the fabulous Ken (The Rocket) Korb.  She is extremely talented and a pleasure to hear.

Todd Evans
Todd is an accomplished and well trained guitarist who eschews standard "folk" chords for more jazzy orchestration chords and arrangements. He is a regular at our Folk Jams as well as the Babylon Arts Council jam and the monthly Bluegrass Club jam.  He is a member of the Goeffrey Armes Band which plays original music infused with jazz, pop and folk flavors.

Claude Margouleff
Claude picked up the guitar around the age of 10 or 11; he was exposed to many musical talents through the interests of his mother and absorbed his repertoire from the many artists of the 50's and the 60's.  He has tinkered with percussion and the french horn, but luckily for us he seems to have majored in the guitar and singing.

Sonny Meadows
Sonny is a gravel voiced topical singer and songwriter who has released 10 albums of original material over the past decade or so.  Some have been solo, some with the "Defibrillators", and some with the quintet "Blacklisted and the Banned".  He redid Millard Lampell's Woody Guthrie Tribute back in 2000 and 2002, assembling a number of musicians and raising funds for the Huntington Disease Association. His music has been on the soundtrack for the PBS documentary on the World Trade Center disaster and he has written theme songs for several public access television programs. He is currently in the Son Spot Studio working with Sonny Speed on a new album of his inimitable lighthearted material.

Lois Morton
A clutterholic, Lois began writing songs in the 60's and continues to this day. She has recently performed in cabaret at Don't Tell Mama on Restaurant Row in NYC, and has worked with the reknowned teacher and performer Helen Baldassare. She now focuses on clever, humorous songs of social commentary on such subjects as clutter, cell phones and other topics. She sings in several languages with a special emphasis on French and the songs of Edith Piaf.

Scott MacDonald
A master luthier that lives right here in Huntington. His work is featured in a new book on Luthiers called "Hand Made Hand Played", as well as a custom guitar book being published in Paris. He has worked with members of the Grateful Dead, Blondie, Lucinda Williams, Tom Paxton and many others. He is also the founder of the Hard Luck Caf which is featured every third Saturday of the month. Did I mention, he  plays the guitar, the banjo and the ukulele.

Grand Folk Railroad: Susan Cohen & Mike Christian
With a strong soulful voice and a writing style that hearkens back to the days of country music, Sue Cohen delivers a moving performance. Her partner in crime, Mike Christian, plays the drums and the bass and accompanies her in the many gigs they go on.  By the way, the bass that Mike plays is strung with rubber bands, a unique instrument.

Ken Bongort
Ken loves folk music and plays the guitar, concertina and banjo ... but not all at once. His music is selective and eclectic.  His self interpretation is "I can't wait for tomorrow because I get more musical every day".

Bob Westcott
One of the first members of the "Wes Houston Band", he has been on the music scene for well over 30 years.  He has played in the basket houses in Greenwich Village, moved to Manchester, England to explore the British folk scene and traveled through Canada and the US before settling on Long Island. He is a master fingerstyle guitarist. He has opened for many nationally know performers including John Hammond, Merle Haggard, Richie Havens, Tom Paxton and many others. Bob also puts on our Annual Holiday Review every year. Currently he is a member of the "Defibrillators" and always a pleasure to listen to.
