Aidan Key at The Well: "Trans-formation"
Gender specialist Aidan Key will present a workshop called "Trans-formation: Gender and Children: Understanding Transgender and Gender Non-Conforming Children and Youth."
While geared specifically for children and youth ministers as well as clergy, all supportive adults are welcome to attend.
Youth with diverse gender identity or expression encounter many situations in which others are confused, curious or concerned. This can inadvertently present multiple barriers to the basics that others take for granted; knowledgeable medical/mental health care, non-stigmatized inclusion in schools, and acceptance from peers. These barriers to understanding can extend to the child's immediate family, neighborhoods, churches, and beyond. While societal awareness is gradually increasing, most people have had few options where they could learn more or ask questions about gender nonconforming and transgender children and teens. Here is your opportunity!
In this interactive session, gender specialist Aidan Key will discuss child and adolescent gender nonconformity and identity formation, challenges faced by these children and their families, and strategies for support within the family, community, and society as a whole.
