COMPRESS FEST
Thursday, November 14, 2013 7pm 10pm COMPRESS FEST- Media Shorts on the Big Screen
The Media Arts Project (MAP,) in collaboration with Mechanical Eye Microcinema, presents COMPRESS FEST, a celebration of the cinematic experience and WNC's filmmaking community. The public is invited to this special screening of short videos -- each no longer than 5 minutes from more than 20 regional media artists including UNCA new media professor, Curt Cloninger; Blue Ridge Community College instructor, Charlotte Taylor, visual artist Nava Lubelski, Fayetteville native Joshua Yates; Asheville producers Andrea Desky and Danielle McClennan of Link'd Video; and many more.
Videos screening at COMPRESS FEST represent myriad genres including movie trailers, experimental/avant-garde, documentary, music videos, artist profiles, mashups, cell phone vids, claymation, a little horror, and a good dose of humor. This selection of work represents the diverse creativity within our regional media landscape.
The Media Arts Project supports innovative arts and technology through monthly Off the MAP art discussions and regional artist opportunities. In 2013 The MAP awarded two community grants of $1,200 to local artists and organized a number of events including {re}HAPPENING (in collaboration with Black Mountain College Museum and Art Center) and the Copy/Right Symposium on Appropriation Art (in partnership with Window Gallery, The Mechanical Eye Microcinema, and The Apothecary). http://themap.org
