The Bishop's School -- A Martin Luther King Jr Day Musical Celebration
The Endowed Scholar-in-Residence Program at Bishop's is designed to bring leaders in the fields of science, arts, humanities, and social sciences to the campus for a period of residency in order to inspire students and faculty towards the highest ideals of academic and artistic pursuit. In the 2008-2009 academic year, the Scholar-in-Residence Program is bringing Byron Smith and the Spirit Chorale of Los Angeles to Bishop's and the community.
In celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the Spirit Chorale will lift the soul with its gospel music. The 16-member chorale led by Byron Smith, music director and founder of the group, will entertain the community during an evening performance at the Sherwood Auditorium in the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego in La Jolla. The Bishop's Singers and the Spirit Chorale will perform for the first time "Here and Beyond," a song written by Mr. Smith in honor of Bishop's Centennial.
The concert is being presented without charge, but tickets are required.
