Global Rhythms: Lo Cor De La Plana
Making their West Coast debut, Lo Cor de la Plana is one of the hottest new groups in world performance touring. This six-man vocal ensemble from France sings their tight, high-energy vocals in the disappearing language of Occitan, the language of Medieval troubadours, accompanied only by the performer's stomping feet, clapping hands, tambourines and hand drums. Lo Cor de la Plana is based in the city of Marseille and its polyphonic sound reflects that port city's eclectic culture with hints of Eastern European, Arab and African music, as well as Gregorian chant. Rich overlapping harmonies, unexpected sonorities and an unfettered approach to performance make for transcendent vocalizing with appeal across all cultural boundaries.
