John Carpenter's homage to comic strip heroes, kung fu schlock, and macho adventurers is one of the most gleefully ridiculous films of the '80s and one of the most absurdly entertaining. Kurt Russell stars as Jack Burton, a trucker with an affected John Wayne swagger who fancies himself a tough guy. Despite being kind of a buffoon, Jack is more than equal to the task of taking on an ancient Chinese sorcerer even if he doesn't really have a clue as to what's going on half the time.
