Wild Women of Song: The Pamela Rose Trio
The White Barn presents San Francisco blues vocalist Pamela Rose and her multimedia show, "Wild Women of Song: Great Gal Composers of the Jazz Era," at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19.
The concert will celebrate the lives, times and music of the women songwriters of the Tin Pan Alley era.
Featuring songwriters Peggy Lee, Ida Cox, Dorothy Fields, Doris Fisher, Maria Grever, Alberta Hunter, Bernice Petkere, Dana Suesse, Kay Swift, Tot Seymour and Vee Lawnhurst, Rose's show is "a swinging honors course in womankind," according to Bruce Kelley of San Francisco Magazine. The show has been performed from London to the Monterey Jazz Festival and from performing arts centers to jazz clubs, festivals and workshops throughout the world.
On Oct. 19 her band will include pianist and music director Tammy Hall, saxophonist Kristen Storm and bassist Cindy Brown.
A native of Los Angeles, Rose was drafted to tour with the Zasu Pitts Memorial Orchestra, along with vocalist Glenn Walters and Dave Matthews. Her most recent CD, "Wild Women of Song: Great Gal Composers of the Jazz Era," was recorded and produced at Skywalker Ranch with multi-Grammy Award winner Leslie Ann Jones.
The White Barn show is a fundraiser for breast cancer prevention and the Martin-O'Neil Cancer Center at St. Helena Hospital. Tickets are $35.
The White Barn is located at 2727 Sulphur Springs Ave., St. Helena.
