Flamenco Night at the Sound Room

Be prepared for an evening of passion, power, music and dance!

Once again, The Sound Room is pleased to present a wonderful evening of Flamenco. David McLean, an accomplished flamenco guitarist and composer, will be accompanied by flamenco dancers, Melissa Cruz and Clara Rodriguez, with Jose Cortes on vocals. Spanish tapas will be available from the chefs at Uptown Kitchen- olives and cheese, tortilla espagnola, and estofado de pollo vasco (Basque stew).

David McLean's musical wanderings converged in 1999 in Granada, Spain where he studied flamenco guitar, traditional dance and vocal accompaniment. Since moving back from Spain, David has performed in hundreds of flamenco shows, from local venues to stages throughout the United States and Europe.

Clara Rodriguez began training in classical Spanish dance and Flamenco as a child. She has performed as a soloist in international productions, including Jaipur Palace in India, Batalha Festival in Portugal and Valencia, Spain and in many popular local venues.

Melissa Cruz, originally from New Orleans, came to the Bay Area to pursue a law career. After being exposed to flamenco while studying Spanish at UC Berkeley, she began dancing with Rosa Montoya and soon thereafter, joined Ms. Montoya's professional company. Since then, she has built a career dancing, mentoring new dancers and choreographing flamenco across the United States.

Jose Cortes embodies this soulful culture into the perfect mastery of his art, traveling and performing internationally. You don't want to miss this stunning performer as he comes through the Bay Area.
