Event
The Intimacy of Artistic Talent - How it Connects and Defines Us
Renowned arts advocate, Ken Sherman, will appear at Eugene's Jacobs Gallery in the Hult Center, Tuesday, November 5, 2013, for a two hour FREE event starting at 5:30 PM. He will lead an interactive conversation reflecting his passion for painting, drawing, books, film, music and his thoughts on the connection between the arts and the individual.
You will be encouraged to join in with your creative input, questions, and leadership suggestions. Social time begins at 5:30 PM. The event starts at 6:00 PM and continues until 7:30 PM. This will be a remarkable evening for everyone attending.
"I'm a real believer that all the arts are totally connected by a common innovative genesis. It's the way someone finds a comfort zone or passion/obsession that decides if they'll become a writer, or painter, or musician, or knitter, or art lover" he states. "It all comes from the same place in the creative mind and the magic is how to find your own way to enjoy and express yourself with art".
Ken has his own literary agency in Los Angeles and was an Arts and Cultural Affairs commissioner in the City of West Hollywood for ten years where he helped select public art, gave arts grants, and was one of the founders of the on-going West Hollywood Book Fair 15 years ago. He continues on the advisory board of The Christopher Isherwood Foundation and is a founding member of the LA branch of The British Academy of Film And Television Arts (BAFTA). He was also a founding member of The Entertainment Arts Council at The Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
A few of his agency clients are David Guterson ("Snow Falling On Cedars"), Tawni O'Dell (her first published novel, "Back Roads", became an Oprah Book Club book and is about to shoot as a feature), Anne Perry who has 81 published books so far, Starhawk, Louis Begley and the estates of Willa Cather, Anne Baxter, Luis Bunuel, Franz Kafka and Simon Wiesenthal to mention a few. His website is www.kenshermanassociates.com
As an artist (basically charcoal and pastel on paper) he has sold numerous drawings at charity auctions "to strangers.........not friends doing mercy buys". He is also a collector of art.
In the Jacobs Gallery at the time of his presentation will be an exhibit titled, "Three Sides of a Coin" featuring artists Bets Cole, Nancy Watterson Scharf and Grace Sheese. Please visit the Jacobs Gallery website for more information: www.jacobsgallery.org.
Seating is limited, you must register to attend. Please signup today for this free presentation at www.brownpapertickets.com/event/486426. Donations will of course be accepted.
Ken appears in association with the Eugene International Film Festival where he'll be co-teaching his popular three day screenwriting class at Valley River Center as part of the film festival's Screenwriters/Filmmakers Retreat, November 8-10. Anyone can attend. Retreat registration and information is found at www.brownpapertickets.com/event/390767.
