Dwelling
Mary Steadman recently collaborated with six performers/musicians on Dwelling, which was presented in the Anglican Chapel, Arnos Vale Cemetery, Bristol in October last year.
This was a very successful event, and so Mary's taking the show on the road to perform in deconsecrated chapels and churches, including in Wycombe Arts Centre's magnificent Old Church Space.
Dwelling is an experimental performance that combines dance/theatre, film, and live vocal-looping to explore innovative ways of telling stories. It's a small-scale intimate performance that invites the audience to dwell on what are often considered taboos that are associated with death/mourning.
The performance is framed through a troupe of 'hired mourners', who arrive to do their job to eulogise lives that have gone unnoticed, untold, and unheard. It's also part of Mary's PhD practice-based research into Huantology and performance, exploring ghosts, ghosting methodologies and haunting to consider how the past disjoints the present.
