ChiWIP Book Club
1/21/2021 at 6pm - Judy He will moderate as we kick off the first ChiWIP Book Club session with the novel Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult. The novels main character is an African-American labor and delivery nurse named Ruth Jefferson, and the book focuses the issue of race in America as Ruth is called to administer emergency care to the newborn son of a white supremacist couple. The book is being adapted into a film starring Viola Davis and Julia Roberts!
2/17/2021 at 6pm - Christine Filarski will moderate the session for the book Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah. Firefly Lane is a story of friendship between two women, the joys and sorrows of their lives, and how friendships have the power to raise us up, or to destroy us. Netflix is making a series out of this book which is set to premiere on February 3, 2021.
We are leaving the titles open for April, June, August, and November so please e-mail the ChiWIP Social Committee with any book suggestions!
We would also like to take the opportunity to encourage everyone to support a local bookstore online by purchasing the book via the link below: https://bookshop.org/books?keywords=small+great+things If you are looking for a local book store to support in person I encourage you to purchase the book from Chicago's only black-woman owned Bookstore & Gallery, Semicolon Bookstore at 515 N Halsted St.
