The great Chinese action master Chia-Liang Liu passed away earlier this year and left a big hole in the martial arts world. Liu worked as actor, fight choreographer, and/or director on some of the greatest Hong Kong films of all time including Jackie Chan's Legend of the Drunken Master, The 36th Chamber of Shaolin, and many more. In EIGHT DIAGRAM POLE FIGHTER, Liu directs his brother, Chia-Hui (Gordon) Liu in one of the most intense, exciting films in the Shaw Brothers oeuvre. In some ways, this film serves as a bridge between the classical stylings of the Shaw Brothers days and the more visceral action of the Jackie Chan/Jet Li era.
