My Dinner With Andre
Mens Lives: A monthly exploration of the inner emotional world
Film and Workshop with Dr. F. Towne Allen, a local psychotherapist, former chiropractor, and Cinema Arts patron since 1975. Dr. Allen specializes in mens and couple issues in his practice in Centerport. In 1975, he joined a mens group that formed as the result of discussions after the Cinema Arts series Mens Lives. Inspired by his experience in this group, Dr. Allen has started and facilitated numerous other mens groups, many of which are still meeting weekly after as long as 18 years. Members of various mens groups from the Huntington area will be in attendance to answer questions about their unique groups, both facilitated and leaderless.
Wallace Shawn (The Princess Bride) and Andre Gregory (Vanya on 42nd Street), apparently playing themselves, share their lives over the course of an evening meal at a restaurant. Gregory, a theater director from New York, is the more talkative of the pair. He relates to Shawn his tales of dropping out, traveling around the world, and experiencing the variety of ways people live, such as a monk who could balance his entire weight on his fingertips. Shawn listens avidly, but questions the value of Gregory's seeming abandonment of the pragmatic aspects of life. Directed by Louis Malle (Au revoir les enfants, Atlantic City).
