Erica Brown and the Bluegrass Connection
Erica Brown of Lewiston is destined for big things, having developed a strong interest in music at the young age of 7, when she was competing in (and winning) fiddle contests against kids twice her age. Soon she was traveling throughout New England, Canada and even down to Louisiana with the Maine French Fiddlers, and she performed as a special guest with Mac McHale and the Old-Time Radio Gang for 5 years. If you haven't seen or heard her, prepare to be amazed. Tickets are $8 in advance, $10 at the door for this 18+ show.
She now leads an incredible band, Erica Brown and the Bluegrass Connection, and she is also a member of The Stowaways, Darlin' Corey, and the Record Family Band. Erica was also a member of the Bates College "Fighting Bobcats" for 5 years and was twice a member of the Maine All-State Music Festival. In 2003 she was awarded Junior Female Entertainer of the Year Award by the Maine Country Music Association. In 2006, Erica was the recipient of a Maine Arts Commission Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Award, and later that same year she was recognized as a Master Artist by the Maine Arts Commission.
Fred Carpenter, an Appalachian fiddler and owner of The Violin Shop in Nashville, had this to say about Erica: "It does my heart good to see the fiddling tradition carried on so well, and by such a polite, sweet young lady." Fred, we couldn't have said it better ourselves. And a memo to Alison Krauss: you're about to have company.
