Taste Washington Cheeses: Online Class
What do you get for the cheese lover who has everything?
Give the gift of cheese this holiday season! Support Washington's local cheesemakers by treating yourself or your friends, colleagues, and loved ones to tickets to a Washington cheese tasting class.
The one-hour online class will take place on Friday, February 5, at 6:00 p.m.
The class will be a guided tasting that educates participants about each style of cheese and how best to enjoy it. Participants will learn more about the state's creameries and why our cheeses are special. There will also be time for group discussion of tasting notes and pairing ideas. The class will be led by Courtney C. Johnson, executive director of the Washington State Cheesemakers Association.
Attendees will receive a selection of four cheeses made by local creameries. Tasting kits will be available for pick-up at two locations in the greater Seattle area (Edmonds and Burien) a few days before the class; tasting kits will also be available for limited shipping within Washington state. Instructions to join the online class will be included in the tasting kits and will also be disseminated by email in the days before the class.
The class is a benefit for the Washington State Cheesemakers Association (WASCA). WASCA is a 501(c)6 non-profit organization that was formed in 2015 to support cheesemakers, and to promote the continued growth and awareness of artisan cheeses in Washington. Washington State's cheese industry is vibrant with more than 50 licensed cheesemakers who produce a diverse style and selection of cheese from goat, sheep, and cow's milk. 2020 has been an unprecedented year of challenge for many artisan producers, and nothing is more important than our focus on and support of our state's cheesemakers.
If you don't live in Washington, you may purchase a ticket for a cheese lover who does live in the state. You can also donate your ticket and help support Washington cheesemakers by funding WASCA's programs in 2021.
The list of participating cheesemakers will be released soon!
When purchasing your ticket, please include an accurate email address so that you can receive your instructions for the online class. If you are purchasing a tasting kit to be shipped to your Washington address, please also include your complete mailing address.
