Old Growth Northwest Poetry Reading: Carolyne Wright & Kelly Davio
Old Growth Northwest is delighted to announce a poetry reading with Carolyne Wright and Kelly Davio at the Vermillion Art Gallery and Wine Bar in Capitol Hill on Saturday, November 2, from 6:00pm-8:00pm. A student and mentor partnership Wright was Davio's graduate advisor in Poetry at the Whidbey Writer's Workshop. This will be their first public reading together.
Carolyne Wright is the author of nine books of poetry, including Mania Klepto: The Book of Eulene (2011); A Change of Maps (2006), nominated for a Los Angeles Times Book Prize and a finalist for an Idaho Prize and Alice Fay di Castagnola Award; and Seasons of Mangoes & Brainfire (2005), winner of a Blue Lynx Prize and an American Book Award. A Seattle native who studied with Elizabeth Bishop, Richard Hugo, and William Stafford, Wright has taught as faculty and as a visiting writer at conferences, colleges, and universities including Harvard, Radcliffe, Emory University, and the University of Miami. She moved back to Seattle in 2005 and teaches for the Northwest Institute of Literary Arts Whidbey Writers Workshop MFA Program.
Kelly Davio is a poetry teacher in the Seattle area, holds an MFA in Poetry from Northwest Institute of Literary Arts (Whidbey Writer's Workshop), and has worked as an instructor of English as a second language. Davio is the former Managing Editor for The Los Angeles Review and is currently Associate Poetry Editor for Fifth Wednesday Journal. She also contributes to a book review for Women's Review of Books. Her debut collection, Burn This House, is available from Red Hen Press.
