The Bet
Big screen, here we come!
The Plaza Playhouse Theater is set to make a huge leap toward buying a BIG movie screen. Here's how you can contribute toward the $20,000 goal. The Plaza is partnering with the Community Film Studio Santa Barbara (CFSSB) for the Carpinteria premiere of "The Bet", the feature film filmed in Santa Barbara and starring local actors including Carpinterians!
There are two showings, both at The Plaza on Saturday, November 23. The matinee starts at 2 p.m. and tickets are $10. The gala fundraiser starts at 5:30 p.m. with a very special reception at Crushcakes, the famous eatery across the street. Then, you, me, cast, and crew will walk on the red carpet, of course! to the Plaza for special screening of The Bet at 7 p.m. Tickets for the gala are only $50, all hobnobbing and rubbing of shoulders included along with food and drink.
Buy your tickets here. Tickets are also available at the Curious Cup bookstore, whose new address is 5285 Carpinteria Ave.
Here's more about "The Bet". High school senior ADDISON SMITH lives with his widowed mom, LIBBY, and paternal grandfather COLLIER, in Santa Barbara. At 18, still practicing to get his driver's license, Addison has never been one to rush into things including relationships with girls. Collier, in fact a bit worried about his grandson's development pressures him into a friendly bet: which of them will be the first to seduce a lady. Collier picks Addison's potential conquests at the high school, as Addison and his buddies pick Collier's at the retirement facility. As the bet plays itself out in this coming-of-age romantic comedy, Addison's mom, Libby, is herself just starting to date again, after the death of her husband several years before. What ensues is three generations of a family, all looking for love sometimes in the right places, sometimes in the wrong ones, sometimes comically, sometimes poignantly. Along the way, they learn, and teach each other, lessons about love, life, maturity, and what it means to grow into adulthood. Here's some information about our partner, the Community Film Studio Santa Barbara. Community Film Studio Santa Barbara (CFSSB) is the first of its kind: a nonprofit, all-volunteer, community-focused motion picture studio that brings together local volunteers and experienced filmmakers to produce feature-length movies for audiences in our region and around the world. Founded in 2011, CFSSB completed its first feature film, The Bet, in 2013. The film, directed by successful actress and area resident Finola Hughes, has already been seen by thousands in the general Santa Barbara area and many more at festivals across the United States. The studio will begin production on its next film in early 2014, a drama about the intersection of cultures between Latino and white. For more information and to join, visit: www.CFSSB.org. Community Film Studio Santa Barbara is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation.
See you on November 23!
