LOOK HOMEWARD, ANGEL
This Holiday Season, a Family Struggles to Find its Way as a Favorite Son Comes of Age.
September 30, 2013 North Hollywood, CA
The legendary plays of our 7th Legendary Season continue with Ketti Frings' Pulitzer Prize-winning adaptation of Thomas Wolfe's funny and poignant recollections of one boy's coming of age to triumph against long odds.
The long-anticipated Los Angeles return of LOOK HOMEWARD, ANGEL, directed by T L Kolman and featuring a power-house cast opens November 2, 2013 at the Secret Rose Theatre, 11246 Magnolia Boulevard, in the heart of the North Hollywood Arts District.
Based on Thomas Wolfe's autobiographical novel of the same name, Look Homeward, Angel examines the life of a young man growing up in a small town in the mountains of North Carolina during the early part of the 20th century. Brimming with fascinating and colorful characters, the play is funny, engaging, and ultimately poignant as our hero Eugene finds his way through love and loss. The original Broadway production opened at the Ethel Barrymore Theater on November 28, 1957 and ran for 564 performances. The play won the Pulitzer Prize in Drama in 1958 as well as the New York Drama Critics' Circle Award, and was nominated for multiple 1958 Tony Awards. In 1994 it won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Play and was recently revived in New York to huge acclaim in a production helmed by Austin Pendleton.
The Production Company is honored to announce the wonderful cast which includes Grant Tambellini & AJ Jones as brothers Eugene and Ben, and Alison Blanchard & Geoffrey Wade as the ubiquitous Eliza and W.O. Gant, who are brilliantly supported by Christiane Amorosia, Alex Denney, Marika Engelhardt, Hugh Kinslow, Bill Lewis, Mary Mather, Kelly McCracken, Michelle Simek, & Elizabeth Southard. The play is Assistant Directed by Phil Talsky, with Lighting Design by Matt Richter, Set Design by August Viverito, and the production is Stage Managed by Scott Fleming.
