With all the hustle and bustle associated with this time of year, it's a real joy to find something as simple and pure as this holiday offering from Mark O'Connor. O'Connor is a Grammy-winning composer and violinist whose album An Appalachian Christmas was chosen by the Wall Street Journal and the Los Angeles Times as the top album of the 2012 season. Third in a trilogy of his "Appalachia" recordings, the esteemed fiddler and composer brings his inclusive merging of folk, country, jazz and classical music to this warmly elegant session of An Appalachian Christmas.
Hailed as "one of the most talented and imaginative artists working in music," by the Los Angeles Times, Mark O'Connor has lived an extraordinary life as a musical artist. The multi-Grammy winning musician and composer, most known for his million-selling composition "Appalachia Waltz" has composed nine concertos and two symphonies as well as authoring a new violin method that tens of thousands of children are learning from. After 30 years Mark still remains the only person that has won the National Fiddle Championship, the National Guitar Flatpicking Championship, and the World Mandolin Championship. He has also voted "Musician of the Year" for six years in a row by the Country Music Awards Association.
Growing up in the O'Connor musical household, Christmas time was a wondrous mixture of Christmas carols, fiddling, bluegrass, and other traditional American musicand that is the spirit of "An Appalachian Christmas". The number one album has been called "Glorious.heavenly" by The Associated Press, "Elegant" by the New York Times, and "an absolute delight" by American Songwriter.com.
Mark is joined on this tour by Carrie Rodriguez, Cia Cherryholmes, Forrest O'Connor, Joe Smart, and Kyle Kegerreis.
