It's time for Focus on Farming XI, we hope you can join us! Renowned sustainable agriculturist to keynote Focus on Farming Acclaimed humorist set to provide evening entertainment at Evergreen State Fairgrounds Where can you listen to a presentation by an internationally renowned leader in sustainable agriculture? Or revel in the farm stories of an acclaimed speaker and humorist? At the Nov. 20 Focus on Farming conference at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds in Monroe. This year's keynote speaker is Fred Kirschenmann, who shares an appointment as Distinguished Fellow for the Leopold Center and as President of the Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture. His previous appointments include tenure on the USDA's National Organic Standards Board and the National Commission on Industrial Farm Animal Production. He also manages his family's 1,800-acre organic farm in North Dakota a farm that has been featured in National Geographic, Business Week and Gourmet Magazine. Joining the conference for an evening of entertainment is Suzie Oberdahlhoff, a city-born preacher's kid turned farm wife. Her presentation, "Kids, crops, sows and cows: Life happens, learn to bounce," is sure to resonate with those in the audience trying to juggle farm life with relationships, parenting and everyday life. Susie weaves her four Ps of prosperity throughout her stories and reminds people of the importance of learning to bounce through life's twists and turns. Focus on Farming is a one-day Snohomish County conference that brings together professionals from across the country to provide farmers with the latest agriculture education and information. Conference participants can choose from 24 workshops across six industry tracks presented by the top experts in the country, and can peruse the latest products on display at a 17,000 square foot indoor trade show. This year's conference goes "back to the farm" thanks to a partnership with the Evergreen State Fairgrounds in Monroe, which will host the 11th annual event. Focus on Farming is the only
one-day gathering for all types of
farming in one location; whether
organic or conventional, livestock or
row crops, large or small. Providing
quality education to sustain current
farmers and attracting new farmers
to our region is a critical component
in securing the next generation's
local food supply.

Recognizing that agriculture is constantly
changing, many established farmers come
to hear about recent research and learn new
techniques. Keynote presentations from
Rob Brooks, creator of the "We're a Lot Like
You, a Little Different" ad campaign that we
all identify with and, Will Allen founder of
"Growing Power", an urban farmer who is
transforming the cultivation, production and
delivery of healthy foods to under-served
urban populations.
