Visit Italy this holiday season, no passport needed! From sheep-covered hillsides to majestic cathedrals, we'll wander through the centuries with guest Renaissance wind band The Whole Noyse, singing motets, carols, folk songs, and glorious multi-choir masterpieces. Featuring Italian composers Gabrieli, Marenzio, Verdi, Gesualdo and Vlad, and stunning new works by Kala Pierson and Benjamin Taylor.

THE CHORAL ARTISTS
SFCA has premiered over 190 works and is the winner of the 2012 ASCAP/Chorus America Award for Adventurous Programming, confirming its reputation for eclectic programming and stunning performances of music spanning 600 years. Under its Roger Nixon Living Music Initiative, SFCA supports the performance of works by living composers through programs such as the New Voices Project for composers under 30, and Composer-in-Residence and Composer-Not-in-Residence programs. The ensemble cultivates innovative collaborations and has performed with Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, The Alexander String Quartet, Veretski Pass, Composers Inc., and The Whole Noyse.

"A performance by S.F. Choral Artists exemplifies contemporary choral music at its best." -- Maggee VanSpeybroeck, SFCV, 2 March 2013

"an inventive and elegantly crafted concert" -- Benjamin Frandzel, SFCV, 23 June 2013

Magen Solomon, Artistic Director
Under Magen Solomon's leadership since 1995, the Choral Artists have released several recordings, and performed at ACDA and Chorus America conferences. Active nationally as a guest conductor, adjudicator, and clinician, Dr. Solomon is also Artistic Director of the Stockton Chorale & Master Chorale, and directed the Oakland Symphony Chorus for twelve years.

2014 Composer-Not-in-Residence Kala Pierson
Kala Pierson's music, inspired by a rich range of cultures and current events, has been performed on every continent, published by Universal Edition, and widely awarded. She was SFCA's 2008 New Voices winner. More at kalapierson.com.

2014 Composer-in-Residence Benjamin Taylor
A young composer writing music for concert halls, churches, rock clubs, radio and television across North America, Benjamin Taylor is being increasingly recognized for works of artistry and energy, depth, and delight.

GUEST ARTIST
The Whole Noyse, among the country's leading early brass ensembles, is modeled after wind bands of the 16th and 17th centuries. Members play multiple instruments, from cornetts, sackbuts, and curtal to recorders, slide trumpet, and gittern.
