Labayen Dance presents Moving Studies
Moving Studies is an informal performance event by award winning choreographer ENRICO LABAYEN and Amsterdam-based dance artist and emerging choreographer, LAURA BERNASCONI. With their professional background in western classical dance and Asian dances, the evening promises to investigate and synthesize both dance idioms creating dances that crosses and blends the cultural divide between East and West.
The works performed are movement studies to be explored, investigated, expounded as part of a larger works to have its world premiere in Spring 2009. Ms. Bernasconi will present works to the music of Nina Simone and David Swarup with guest dance artist NORA HEIBER of Alonzo Kings LINES Contemporary Ballet.
Internationally renowned choreographer Enrico Labayen will unveil RICE BLUES to the music of Yoshida Brothers and performed by Labayen Dance/SF principal dancers Michelle Lohmar, Diane Mateo and Jennifer Price and excerpts from Labayens Damas and an untitled work performed by the participants of Enrico Labayens Fall Choreography and Performance Workshop.
SAFEhouse for the Performing Arts (Saving Art From Extinction) @ The Garage is a non-profit arts presenting organization that specializes in incubating new performing art through residencies, workshops and performance. The Garage is the home of the raw & uncut performance showcase, RAW (resident artists workshop), SPF (summer performance festival) and AIRspace (queer performing artists residency program).
