Program: Attendees will learn the basics of how to avoid the legal pitfalls of leaving a firm, and how to start their own practice including selecting and creating an appropriate legal entity, setting up an office, and hiring staff.

Speakers:
Michelle Berger Michelle received her undergraduate degree from the University of California Riverside (BA, 1994), and her law degree from Southwestern Law School (JD, 1997). Her practice emphasizes the areas of construction, insurance defense and professional liability litigation; and she has significant experience in representing general contractors, subcontractors and design professionals in claims concerning construction defect and construction cost overruns and delays, and handles all aspects of insurance claims and litigation involving construction matters. She is an active member of the Orange County Bar Association and the Association of Southern California Defense Counsel.
Michelle Generaux Michelle received her undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame (BA, 1993), and her law degree from William Mitchell College of Law (JD, Cum Laude 1996). She began her law career in Minnesota (1996), and has been practicing law in California since 2001. Her practice is focused on the representation of privately held businesses, with an emphasis on architectural and engineering firms. She has extensive experience in entity selection and formation, contract drafting and negotiation, ownership transitions and mergers and acquisitions. She also practices in the areas of probate and trust administration, and litigates various business claims and disputes. She is an active member of the American and Orange County Bar Associations as well as a member of the board of directors of the Notre Dame Club of Orange County and the founder of the Notre Dame Professionals of Orange County.
Earleen Thomas Since 1982, Earleen had provided insurance and risk management services to a wide variety of professionals and consultants. For most of her insurance career, Earleen has specialized in meeting the needs of design professionals, accounting firms, law offices and other professional consultants. Utilizing her background in accounting, business management, sales, computers, and project management, Earleen offers a broad perspective on business and risk. Actively participating in support of the A/E/C community is a priority for Earleen. She serves as a director of a/e ProNet, a sponsor of BDA/OC, an affiliate member of both SAME and OC-AIA, and she has also authored several association insurance programs. Earleen maximizes her background experience and resources in order to provide risk management, loss prevention services, and education to the industries she serves.
