FIRES IN THE MIRROR by Anna Deavere Smith Jan 29 - Feb 28, 2009 Takes a searing look at the misunderstandings of, and sympathies between, two cultures living in the community of Crown Heights, Brooklyn, during the 1991 riots. New York Times says, quite simply, the most compelling and sophisticated view of urban racial and class conflict." In 16th Streets production, four diverse women take on 26 voices of the residents, religious leaders, activists, victims, and gangs originally interviewed and performed by Anna Deavere Smith.
S-E-X-OH! Created by El Teatro Luna March 5 29, 2009 Teatro Luna's fourth original ensemble built work, originally produced in 2006, takes up the intersections between sex, gender, and our latinidad. Based on our true life stories, plus a few strategic re-imaginings, S-e-x-OH! covers a range of topics, from the serious to the tragically hilarious. UNVEILED by Rohina April 30- May 23, 2009 Racism, hate crimes, love, Islam, 9/11, tea, culture, language, life, and hope interweave in this compelling one-woman show about Muslim women in a post-9/11 world. A part of 16th Streets WORDS IN MOTION festival. Rohina is a writer and actress who specializes in solo performance. She was born and raised in London, England, and draws upon her Indo-Pakistani heritage for inspiration for her Art.
THE LAST BARBECUE by Brett Neveu July 9 - Aug 8, 2009 An audacious and dark comedy about a ten-year reunion of a son's high school graduation that coincides with the one-year anniversary of the next-door neighbor's death. The Last Barbecue takes a look at what's cooking in a nice "normal" family's backyard on any given Sunday. 16th Streets production is a revival of The Aardvarks 2000 production with the same cast scheduled to appear! Brett Neveu has worked with many theatres, including The Goodman Theatre, The Royal Shakespeare Theatre and Manhattan Theatre Club. Plays include Gas For Less, Eric LaRue and American Dead. He currently lives in Los Angeles.

Performer and self-proclaimed hypochondriac Tekki Lomnicki journeys from doctor to doctor in search of a diagnosis for her blurred vision with hilarious and moving results. MIXIN' IT UP by Marilyn Campbell and Maria Merrin running in rep April 16 - 25, 2009 The mother/daughter saga of race, feminism and hair comes to 16th Street! Writers and performers Marilyn Campbell and Maria Merrin continue their mother/daughter saga and share more funny and touching stories about the difficulties and joys of mixing the races, feminism and single motherhood in our time.
THE ME, MOM & DAD SHOW! by Martie Sanders running in rep April 16- 25, 2009 Martie Sanders and her parents, Caroline and Charlie, dish it out on the 16th Street stage! This show reveals hilarious moments of parental imprinting along with politics, history, and a powerful tap dance by Charlie that brings racial unity to 1967 Detroit at least for a moment. Dont miss this dynamic writer and polished performer (Chicago Sun-Times) as she shares the limelight with her folks.
