8th Annual Oakland Public Library Advocates Holiday Mixer
2020 has been rough, to say the least, and the Oakland Public Library has done some amazing work supporting our community this year. Join us for some well-deserved celebrating at the 8th Annual Oakland Public Library (OPL) Advocates Holiday Mixer, Sunday, Dec. 6, from 1-3 pm.
To keep everyone safe, we'll be celebrating on Zoom this year. You will not need a Zoom account to attend! We'll provide easy-to-follow instructions for attending the Mixer when you RSVP.
The mixer will once again be co-hosted by the City of Oakland Library Advisory Commission and the Friends of the Oakland Public Library.
As always, we'll feature some of OPL's gifted librarians and a message from Jamie Turbak, Director of Library Services. This year's program will focus on how the Library has adapted to serve the community during the pandemic.
Supervising Librarian (Branches) Derrick DeMay, will talk about OPL's food distribution programs and hotspots for OUSD. Local treasure Dorothy Lazard, the Oakland History Center Librarian, will introduce the COVID-19 East Bay Community Archive. And Laura Liang, Children's Services Supervising Librarian (and former LAC member) will discuss Children's Services during the pandemic.
We're excited to announce that this year's celebration will also feature a performance by Greer Nakadegawa-Lee, Oaklands 2020 Youth Poet Laureate.
