JFK - A Ghostly Evening
Kansas City's new theater company, MeltingPot KC, announces our first outside production of an original play by a local writer. This November, in association with the Westport Center for the Arts, we will premiere "JFK - A Ghostly Evening", by Scott Myers, presented at Just Off Broadway Theatre. The play is in honor of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy, civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr. and activist Medgar Evers, bringing back memories of one of the most popular presidents and civil rights leaders of our time. It is a story of reflection as we approach the 50th anniversary of the assassination of John F. Kennedy. "JFK - A Ghostly Evening" and future MeltingPot KC productions will be presented at Just Off Broadway Theatre, 3051 Central in Penn Valley Park, Kansas City, Missouri.

Martin Luther King, Jr. and his wife Coretta Scott King have been invited to a private dinner at the White House by President John F. Kennedy and his wife, Jacqueline. Both couples are linked to events for which they are in the crossfire. For King, who has just given his "I Have A Dream" speech at the March On Washington, the struggle is critical for Civil Rights, the end of Segregation, the right of Negroes to unrestricted voting rights, as well as the end to the Jim Crow Laws of the South. King and his family face the possibility of death every second of every day. President Kennedy must face dealing with this Civil Rights issue which threatens to rip America across racial lines, in addition to dealing with the problem of an unpopular war in Vietnam, not to mention the tensions with the Soviet Union at the height of the Cold War that has the world on the brink of a nuclear war. Though these two men would seem to be on the same side of justice for America, their reasons and motivations do collide. A nice quiet evening is not on the menu.
Added to the setting are interactions with Lyndon B. Johnson, J. Edgar Hoover, and Robert F. "Bobby" Kennedy. Also involved is the ghost of Medgar Evers, a civil rights worker who has recently been shot down in his own driveway by a southern racist. Needless to say the dinner conversation should be a full course affair for the mind.
John Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Jr., Robert Kennedy, and Medgar Evers, all fall victim to assassination and murder. A chilling footnote to this particular evening.
