Louise Bourgeois: The Spider, The Mistress and the Tangerine
Dirs. Marion Cajori & Amei Wallach US 2008 At the age of 71 Louise Bourgeois became the first woman to be honored with a major retrospective at New Yorks Museum of Modern Art. Now 96 years old, Louise Bourgeois is regarded as one of the most important artists working today. Through her daring journey into her own psyche, she produces astonishing new forms in painting, sculpture, print, drawing, collage, installation and monumental constructions. Her art is a response to the historical and personal transformations of our time and is sometimes as abstract as a sphere, sometimes as specific as a spider. She is as apt to carve undulating folds out of marble as to stitch a hanging sculpture out of her mothers old dress. This film is a drama of creativity and revelation in one extraordinary life. (99m)
