Book Talk by Wender Lower, author of "Hitler's Furies: German Women in the Nazi Killing Fields"
Wendy Lower will read from and discuss her stunning account of the role of German women on the Nazi eastern front as plunderers, direct witnesses and actual killers powerfully revises our understanding of history. Many young nurses, teachers, secretaries, and wives saw the emerging Nazi empire as a kind of "wild east" of opportunity, yet could not have imagined what they would do there. Lower, a professor of history at Claremont (CA) McKenna, drew on 20 years of archival research, fieldwork and interviews in writing this significant new volume.
