Kung Pao Kosher Comedy Presents... Comedy Returns to El Rio!
Now in its 5th year, this monthly (every 2nd Monday of the month) multicultural comedy show features the best of Bay Area comedians and beyond. It takes place at El Rio, where SF comedian/comedy producer, Lisa Geduldig (Kung Pao Kosher Comedy) began her stand up comedy career 24 years ago.
This month's show features an eclectic mix of Bay Area-based comics, African American, Venezuelan, Jewish, gay, straight, short, tall: Jabari Davis, Eloisa Bravo, Stefani Silverman, Howard Stone, and Lisa Geduldig
Jabari Davis has taken the San Francisco Comedy community by storm with humor that combines down and dirty street smarts with thought-provoking intellect. With a style that interweaves true-life failures backed by undeniable logic, his comedic dialogue transcends not only cultural barriers, but social classes as well. Jabari has performed in some of the nation's biggest comedy clubs including The Comedy Store (Hollywood, La Jolla), The Ice House Comedy Club (Pasadena), San Francisco and Sacramento Punchline, Cobb's Comedy Club, Carolines on Broadway (New York), and Gotham Comedy Club (New York). In 2010 he debuted his one-man solo performance piece "Felony Swagger with A Degree" in the San Francisco Theater Festival to rave reviews. He was invited back in 2011 to perform another solo performance piece, both of which were directed by W. Kamau Bell of FX's "Totally Biased." In 2011 and 2012, Jabari was selected to perform in at Comedy Day in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. He has also performed on Charlie Murphy's Acid Trip Tour and was recently selected to perform in the Cape Fear Comedy Festival 2013 in Wilmington, North Carolina. In addition to performing and producing live stand up, Jabari also wrote and directed his first full length documentary "Basement Legends," which is a film about the historical Purple Onion and Jabari's intertwined fates in San Francisco comedy. The film is scheduled to be released this Fall. http://www.jabaridavis.com Eloisa Bravo: Crazy comedy is her thing! Eloisa is a spicy Venezuelan who addresses the urban issues of a single woman. Packed with energy and cuteness, she will make you laugh, assuming you are lucky enough to understand her accent. She has performed at the Punchline, the Purple Onion, Rooster T. Feathers, the Palm Beach Improv, the Miami Improv, the Hollywood Improv and at the Burrito Comedy Festival.
Stefani Silverman is a former attorney who uses her hard earned critical thinking skills to talk about such complex topics as food, sex and things she sees on MUNI. Mostly observational, increasingly self-revelatory, Stefani's comedy will get you laughing and keep you thinking. Check her out at Cafe Royale at 800 Post Street where she produces a monthly showcase called Tickled Pink and co-produces a monthly showcase called The Comikaze Lounge the third Wednesday of each month. Stefani has performed at Cobb's with Comedians at Law, at Comedy Day, and is a regular at the Sunday New Talent Show case at the SF Punchline.
Howard Stone's unconventional comedy style is both laid back and manic. He lures his audience into his world by weaving personal stories with sharp one-liners and improvisation. Being a father, he spouts alternative family values with edge and irony. He launches effortlessly into tirades about pop culture, his Jewish roots, sobriety, coping with a mental illness, commercialism and all the other absurdities of life. Now, after 40 years as a stand-up comedian Howard is hanging up the microphone at the end of the year. El Rio was his first paid gig when he returned to San Francisco in the mid 1980's. Come celebrate his return to ground zero and wish him the best. You can catch Howard on FCC Free Radio every Monday and Friday.
Lisa Geduldig is a local comic and comedy producer who's the creator, producer, and MC of a variety of comedy shows including Kung Pao Kosher Comedy (which celebrated its 20th anniversary last December); Funny Girlz: A Smorgasbord of Women Comedians; The Color of Funny: A Multi-Cultural Comedy Show; and A Muslim, A Mormon, and A Jew Walk into A Bar: The Comedy of Religion.
