This course focuses on review of significant changes found in the 2013 California Building Code. These changes will be reviewed in detail and a framework for understanding code changes, the code change process, California Code Adoption Cycle and appropriate references for further information will be developed.

The bulk of the presentation is dedicated to significant and substantial changes to Chapter 7 Fire Resistance Rated Construction and Chapter 10 Means of Egress.
Learning objectives:
1. Identify the various stages of the California Code Adoption Cycle
2. Understand the basis for Authorities Receiving Power in California, including applicable legislation
3. Identify and Be Familiar with Significant Code Changes in the 2013 CBC

Mr. Thul, a Senior Fire Protection Engineer and Los Angeles Office Manager, joined Cosentinia Tetra Tech Company, in 2013 to expand their Fire Engineering, Code and Life Safety group to the Greater Los Angeles/Orange County Area. His responsibilities include growth and development of Cosentini's presence in the Southern California Market, and providing practical solutions to complicated fire protection engineering and building code based design problems. Mr. Thul has a record of managing diverse teams to successful completion and resolution of sophisticated and multi-faceted design and engineering projects.
Prior to joining Cosentini, Mr. Thul was employed as a Consultant for Rolf Jensen & Associates for five years. He joined RJA in January of 2008 after earning his Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
