The Brewprints Part 1: 40 Scenes on Hops
CHICAGO READER RECOMMENDED!
The Brewprints Part One: 40 Scenes on Hops
When: Through 11/20: Wed 8:30 PM, Sat 4 PM
Price: $15

The first installment of Drinking & Writing Brewery's tetralogy celebrating the four ingredients of beer (hops, water, yeast, and grain) is an odd but endearing collection of stories, songs, spoken word, short films, and quite a few pieces that defy categorization, all centered around hops. Sean Benjamin and Steve Mosqueda have done their research well, and there's tons of trivia about the bittering agent packed into the showthough it goes by so fast that you'll be lucky to remember half of it. The whole thing is unabashedly goofy; at one point Mosqueda is telling a touching story about his mom, and a few minutes later he's taking a bite of a hop and spitting it out"Hops. Tasty. No. Shit. No." It's a testament to the pair's powers of entertainment that the show ran [20 minutes] longer than the expected 70 minutes, and I had no idea until I checked the time. Julia Thiel

The Brewprints is a tetralogy (that's 4!) of separate and distinct shows dissecting and deconstructing each of the 4 ingredients of beer: water, hops, yeast and grain. The 4 shows will take place over the next year with the first show beginning October 19 called The Brewprints: 40 scenes on Hops. Writers, performers, and founders of The Drinking & Writing Brewery Sean Benjamin and Steve Mosqueda (both formerly of The Neo-Futurists home of the longest running show in Chicago, Too Much Light Makes The Baby Go Blind), take you into the world of hops with 40 scenes inspired by that wonderful beer ingredient. Not only do the two love beer so much that they write shows about it, but Steve Mosqueda is also a brewer at Haymarket Pub & Brewery which is home to their theater. So watch the show and drink some beer brewed by Steve!
