Silicon Valley Advanced Water Purification Center, A Virtual Tour for Chemists
I have a question for you! What is something that cannot be created nor destroyed? For the science enthusiast out there, Im sure the first thing that comes to mind is Matter. And you would be correct! The Law of Conservation Mass states that mass is neither created nor destroyed. But theres another substance that falls under the same umbrella that often isnt talked about. What if I told you that this substance is the main ingredient to life here on earth? You guessed it, Water.
Theoretically speaking, you can create and destroy water by simply separating the Hydrogen and oxygen molecules from each other. The only issue is this process would require so much energy that it would be dangerous to even execute. So in the natural sense water cannot be created nor destroyed. The water we see and use today have been on earth since the beginning of time. Water molecules circulate through the water cycle naturally on earth.
The Silicon Valley Advanced Water Purification Center helps speed up the earths natural process by purifying what use to be wastewater. Organisms such as decomposers and other earthly elements naturally cleanse wastewater on its own. But the natural process takes a longer time. Thats where the SVAWPC comes in. The resulting purified water is being used by 800+ companies today in the Santa Clara County for recycled water purposes.
Silicon Valley Advanced Water Purification Center Tour - This is an in-depth tour of the SVAWPC and how we purified what use to be wastewater for the sake of recycled water usage. This tour also highlights our future efforts to use recycled water as a source of potable (drinkable) water for Santa Clara County. This tour is offered publicly as well as privately and is 1 hour long. For more information, or if you would like to sign up for a tour, you can check out the Purification Center website: https://www.purewater4u.org/
