Stars and Barmen
VORTEX proudly presents the world premiere of  Stars and Barmen by Reina Hardy.  Rupert Knox wants two things in life: to make the astronomical discovery of the new millennium and to find a date to his sister's wedding. He might have found both in Claire, a celestial poet getting over an interstellar break-up. But when a mysterious
woman named Elaine shows up at Rupert's door with an offer of her own, these star-crossed losers--sorry, lovers--will have to make big choices about mortality, true love and whether to stick with vodka or switch to beer. Either way, tonight's gonna be a good night.

Stars and Barmen is a romantic comedy about poetry, pop music and astrophysics, about restless people trying to find transcendence and get laid, about why you need to search the sky above and the city below night after night to be there, brave and ready, for the supernova, the kiss and the fireworks.

Stars of Barmen stars Breanna Stogner, Trey Deason, and Bridget Farr. Directed by Rudy Ramirez. Scenic Design by Ann Marie Gordon. Lighting Design by Jennifer Rogers. Costume Design by Shannon Mott. Stage Management by Tamara L.Farley.

About the Playwright:  Reina Hardy is from Chicago and is pursuing her MFA in Playwriting at the University of Texas at Austin, where she is a Michener Fellow. She was a 2013 finalist for the Terrence McNally Prize, the recipient of the 2012 Interact 20/20 Commission, and a National New Play Network Playwright. Her magical plays have been seen at Capital Stage Sacramento, Las Vegas Little Theatre, Orlando
Shakespeare, and the Great Plains Theatre Conference, where Reina was awarded the Holland New Voices Award. She spent part of this summer at the Kennedy Center, workshopping her as-yet untitled script about the universe and hangovers. Shrewd Productions recently presented her new play,  Glassheart. Her extraordinary play, Changelings, will be produced at The VORTEX in 2014.
