Event
Book Arts Happy Hour
November 1st:
We will learn to make an accordion book and talk about ways to vary this structure. We will use a simple off the press monoprint technique to add imagery to our books. All materials will be provided but students are encouraged to bring any papers, mark making materials (colored pencils, pastels etc), or imagery that they would like to use in their book.
November 8th:
We will explore using origami folds for the interior pages of our books. We'll discuss various adhesives for connecting the pages together and which are most appropriate for a give situation. We will use a book board for one of our covers and learn the proper way to cover our boards with paper or book cloth. Students are encouraged to bring any mark making materials or imagery they would like to use to decorate the interiors of their book. November 15th:
We will make a book with an exposed spine using the linking stitch. The linking stitch is commonly used in bookbinding and once you learn this stitch you'll be able to make many other structures and have a better understanding of other stitching patterns used in bookbinding. This structure is great for sketchbooks or journals as it lies completely flat when opened.
No bookbinding experience is necessary for this class.
Cost: $50 for members $80 for nonmembers
