Cris Williamson Songwriting Workshop
Song Of The Soul: A Lyrical Response
Learning to divine our own thoughts and write them down lyrically is as fine a way as any to penetrate our lives and become more expressive in them. All human beings share a deeply rooted desire to communicate the wonder, pain, love and loss that make up the human condition, but not all know how to do it. We will learn to do it in this workshop. This is a journey of risk and spirit as we struggle to translate feeling into lyrical, musical form. Using observation, imitation, and imagination, we will take this journey together and write songs of our souls.
You do not have to be a musician or a writer to take this workshop. You do have to be a seeker. We will undergo a passage together, using individual and group writing exercises, searching for our own authentic voices. All are welcome here. We will emphasize lyrics and lyrical writing, factual and abstract, loose and structured. We will conclude with at least one group song.
So bring your seeking self to this workshop, as well as a writing book/paper/lap top -- whatever tools you like most -- pencils or pens, a dictionary, a rhyming dictionary, a thesaurus. Bring an instrument if you like -- a piano will be available. Also, bringing a simple tape recorder with several blank tapes is advised.
