Holiday Chocolate and Spice Competition
Fuhmentaboudit!, with Divine Chocolate and Jimmy's No. 43, is proud to present a cocoa and spice fermentation competition.
Join us on a weekend in December to celebrate and sample the creativity of NYC's finest home fermentationists. A panel of judges will decide the winners amongst home-made beer, cider, wine, mead, soda, kombucha, water kefir, milk kefir, and a multitude of fermented foods all featuring chocolate and/or holiday spices as an ingredient. Certain of the entries will be entered into the People's Choice competition where you'll be the judge!
The price of admission includes tastes of entries plus a full pour of Chris Cuzme's "Divine Cocoa for Coconut" Cream Ale from 508 Gastrobrewery.
Divine is the only fairtrade chocolate company which is owned by its cocoa farmers. While Fairtrade ensures farmers receive a better deal for their cocoa and additional income to invest in their community, company ownership gives farmers a share of Divine's profits and a stronger voice in the cocoa industry.
OFFICIAL INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE/COMPETE IS HERE:
Fuhmentaboudit! and Jimmy's No. 43 invite home brewers and fermenters in the NYC area to take part in Chocolate and SpiceFest, a special chocolate and spice home fermented beverage and food competition, featuring Divine Chocolate, the premium chocolate brand and Fair Trade social enterprise co-owned by cocoa farmers in Ghana.
The competition, featuring two separate opportunities ("Spice" or "Chocolate"), is open to everyone, however, entrants must be in attendance on Sunday December 8th to win.
With respect to "spices", absolutely anything fermented with some form of holiday spice (i.e. cinnamon, mint, allspice, cloves, ginger, chili, vanilla, nutmeg, etc) qualifies for entry.
With respect to "chocolate", event supporter Divine Chocolate will provide participants with complimentary Divine cocoa (4.4 oz can), Divine Bittersweet Chocolate (5.3 oz baking bar) or Divine Milk Chocolate (5.3 oz baking bar) for use in their recipes.
Again, absolutely anything fermented with holiday spices or Divine Chocolate can be submitted. For example: homemade beer, cider, wine, mead, soda, kombucha, water kefir, milk kefir and any kind of fermented foods such as bread, cheese, etcetera Contestants can submit as many entries as they wish.
To compete, register here by Friday, November 29th : https://docs.google.com/forms/d/16uyQJn_LGCuBrBuIkleYI6pxls9RM1J97uQ7f0POwy0/viewform
The competition will culminate in a sampling event at Jimmy's No. 43 (43 East 7th Street, New York) on Sunday, December 8th from 1-4 pm.
A panel of judges will decide the winners in three categories: "Alcoholic" (>1.5% ABV), and "Non-Alcoholic" (<1.5% ABV), and "Most Delicious Use of Divine Chocolate" (incorporates Divine Chocolate). In addition to gift baskets, prizes include $100 to each 1st place, $100 to the People's Choice, and $100 for the most delicious use of Divine Chocolate. It is possible for a contestant to win more than one prize.
The event is open to the public and the $20 admission price includes tastes of entries, plus a full pour of Chris Cuzme's Cocoa for Coconut Cream Ale made at 508 Gastrobrewery.
