Lemon: The Movie and Post-Prison Education Program
LEMON (Laura Brownson and Beth Levison, 83 min.)
Three-time felon. One-time Tony award winner. Lemon Andersen is a pioneering poet whose words speak for a generation. But Lemon has landed back in the 'hood, living in the projects with thirteen family members and desperate for a way out. So he turns to the only thing he has left, his pen and his past.
Lemon follows one man's harrowing journey to bring his life story to the stage while battling the demons from his past. Featuring a surprise turn by Spike Lee and music by Hip-hop phenoms Mos Def, Talib Kweli and Aloe Blacc.
POST-PRISON EDUCATION SYSTEM (Ralph Bevins, 12 min.)
After serving their time in prison, most ex-cons in Washington state walk away with 40 bucks in cash and a bus ticket. With many lacking significant support or job opportunities it may come as little surprise that nearly 46 percent will eventually land back behind bars. Ari Kohn is an ex-con who is devoting his life to helping former prisoners break free from the cycles of helplessness, poverty and imprisonment through his Post-Prison Education Program, which sends ex-cons to college.
