Eileen Gannon & Robert Ryan
Eileen Gannon (harp) and Robert Ryan (fiddle) are traditional Irish musicians who have been performing together since meeting at the Catskills Irish Arts Week in upstate New York several years ago. Eileen and Robert are both born to Irish immigrant parents, growing up in St. Louis and London respectively, and in childhood they learned their music within the immigrant community of the Irish diaspora. Eileen is the Musical Director of St. Louis Irish Arts, a school dedicated to the instruction of the music and dance of Ireland where, since moving to St. Louis two years ago, Robert is also one of the schools three fiddle instructors. Eileen and Robert regularly play concerts together in St. Louis, and have performed together across the USA, the UK, Ireland, and to many, many international audiences after the recent proliferation of online broadcasts and livestream concerts! They are currently in the studio working towards the completion of an album of ancient Irish harp and fiddle music, which they hope will be available by the end of the year.
Outdoor Concert Series:
We do not believe it is safe at this time to present concerts indoors in our friendly confines but now that the summer heat is diminishing, we have planned a wonderful series of small, outdoor concerts. We are taking special precautions to inhibit the spread of Covid-19 in accordance with the procedures recommended by the St. Louis County Department of Public Health. Here I how things will work:
-The concerts will be held on the parking lot at the rear of Focal Point. Access will be via the alley off of Marietta Ave., across from the Side Project Cellar.
-Tickets will be available ONLY in advance via Brown Paper Tickets (links to which are included below with the concert descriptions). No tickets will be sold at the door. Because the county limits gatherings to 50, only 40 tickets can be sold. All proceeds from ticket sales will go to the musicians.
-Bring your own chairs, like you would for a concert in the park.
-Individuals and groups will set up their chairs at the direction of our volunteer ushers, who will assure that proper distancing is maintained. If you come with others and want to be seated as a group, you MUST purchase tickets under one name. Members of a group may set up their chairs in close proximity to others in the group, but the ushers will assure that a distance of 6 ft is maintained between your group and other groups or individuals.
-Masks must be worn when not seated.
-The Maya Café will not be open. Please feel free to bring your own beverages and snacks.
-Concerts will last approximately 90 minutes. There will be no intermission.
-There will be only limited restroom availability (so plan ahead ). One unisex, handicap accessible restroom inside our building will be accessible via the rear door opening onto the deck behind the building. Only one person may enter the building at a time.
-If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Focal Point at 314-328-4810.
Different from the usual Focal Point Experience? Well yes, but youll still hear some great music!
