Breathe - A Drive-In Dance event
Breathe, A Drive In Dance Event
When making your reservation, PLEASE NOTE: ONE RESERVATION PER CAR, not attendee. You can bring as many people as will fit in your car.
Created, Choreographed and Directed by Laurie Sefton, presented by The Original Farmers Market, LAUNCH/LA, and Tarfest with support from Television City, the City of Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Department of Arts and Culture, Council member David Ryu, CD 4, and the local arts and business community.
Breathe has been conceived, directed and choreographed during the COVID-19 pandemic by Choreographer Laurie Sefton with music by Bryan Curt Kostors. Inspired by Drive-In movie theaters Breathe will be live, outdoor, capsular, interactive and safe. Created with social distancing in mind, the audience will have the opportunity to participate in the performance by creating a unique visual atmosphere with their headlights.
Breathe centers around our communal experience of the shut down due to the pandemic and resulting protests. Ms. Sefton has a unique talent of taking intense topics and seeing them from all sides. Breathe will deal with these universal issues in a non-graphic and artistic manner, leaving room for audience members of all ages, races and political views to find personally relatable moments.
The live original music has been created specifically for the listening environment of an automobile. The car has long been know as a unique and high quality listening environment, often the closest most lay people get to the studio environment current compositions are created for. The original music for Breathe will allow the audience to listen as if sheltering in place with the comfort and closeness of familiar friends.
This work will provide unique interactive opportunities. Audience members will stay in their parked cars during the performance, safe and socially distanced from the performers and other audience members. They will have the opportunity to lend their headlights to illuminate the performance area. The live music will be transmitted directly to the audiences cars via FM radio, just like at a Drive In movie.
Dancers will perform Laurie Sefton unique complex choreography echoing the months of social isolation of the pandemic, our new normal of physical distancing and social upheaval.
THIS IS A FREE EVENT.
