Calvin Love, North America, Beat Detectives, Joint Custody
With backing influences of pop and dance music of the 50's and 60's, as well as the punk/electronic/new wave of the late 70's and 80's, Calvin Love's music is a sonic escape into psychological mysteries and enlightened tales of love and death. North America is Josh and Jesse Hasko applying their near psychic proclivities to create spatial and hauntingly psychedelic songs. The twin brothers recently performed at All Tomorrow's Parties in the UK. Minneapolis/New York-trio Beat Detectives (who count among their members Nona Marie from Dark Dark Dark) play outsider chopped and screwed dance hits from an imagined, weirdo urban radio station floating in the ether. Crafted in a looping process of tape recording, slowing, and overdubbing, their music is, in their own words "less Ibiza, more Nissan Ultima." Joint Custody, another Minnesota export featuring thrashy guitar and drums, open.
