smARTfilms: Rivers and Tides
BIMA smARTfilms series fosters community conversation through the merger of visual art, film, and narrative. After the screening, our host and guest(s) will initiate a discussion about the film and its art. All are welcome to participate in an open exchange of ideas during these post-film discussions.
RIVERS AND TIDES serenely captures the magical relationship between art and nature while painting a visually intoxicating portrait of famed artist Andy Goldsworthy and his work. Gorgeously shot and crisply edited, the film follows the bohemian free spirit Goldsworthy all over the world as he demonstrates and opens up about his unique creative process. From his winding rock walls and icicle sculptures to his interlocking leaf chains and multicolored pools of flowers, both Goldsworthy's dedication and spontaneity are chronicled through works that are crafted in, created of, and often threatened by the environment. Unrated (probably G) - 90 minutes followed by a hosted discussion about the film and its art.
