Friday 11/7 ORGANISM (with special guest JEN KEARNEY) plus TWO TON SHOE $8 advance / $10 at the door 8:00 doors / 9:00 show www.myspace.com/therealorganism www.stevegiannaros.com www.myspace.com/twotonshoe www.jenkearney.com
ORGANISM resounds with tight, acid jazz grooves and hints of drum n bass, rock, and Latin stylings. Capitalizing on the energy of their extended improvisational sections, this Boston-based quartet offers a collective sound comparable to jazz/funk powerhouse Soulive and fusion greats Tribal Tech. These comparisons, however, should be used loosely, as their instrumentation and individual styles ultimately differentiate them from their musical peers. Organism is comprised of Steve Giannaros on saxophone, guitarist Brian Leccese, John Corda on organ/keyboards/bass and drummer Pete MacLean, all of whom display superior technical mastery.
TWO TON SHOE formed in 1995, primarily from the members of Boston alt metal outfit Mystery Jones, Two Ton Shoe won instant street cred in the New England area with live performances that had both local music aficianados and drunks screaming and local musicians shaking their heads in dumb admiration. While the punch and ferocity of their metal background gave the music a solid launch pad, the music was now driven by nasty funk grooves and tightly constructed pop melodies, along with soaring solo performances that brought to mind the craftiness and charm of 70s session musicians laying it down on buttery black vinyl. Successful pop music has often been about experimentation taking disparate elements and combining them in a novel way. Listening to TTS, one gets the sense that theyve done this, but in a sincere and heartfelt way.
