MINOR DIFFERENCES (Heather Dew Oaksen, 73 min.)
As a juvenile they said he belonged in prison. Afterward he didn't belong anywhere. What do a thief, a kidnapper, two murderers and a heroin addict have in common with your child? Take away the labels ... and you'll find these imprisoned teenagers are an awful lot like your own. MINOR DIFFERENCES introduces five juvenile offenders in maximum security lock-up. We meet them again 18 years later. Filmmaker Heather Dew Oaksen did not set out to establish long term relationships with these jailed teens, but they won her heart and she won their trust.
ONE FOR TEN (Will Francome and Mark Pizzey, 7 min.)
One For Ten is an interactive online documentary series about the death penalty and innocence. During April and May of 2013, a team of four traveled across America and made 10 films in 5 weeks during a 5K road trip. Each film focused on a different person that was innocent and on death row, each highlighted a different issue with the death penalty, and each film was shot, edited and uploaded in under 48 hours, allowing our audience to submit the interview questions and shape the films as they went. Danny Glover, Jeremy Irons, Lily Tomlin and others introduce each of the 6-7 minute films.
RU (WATER IS LIFE) (Shawn Small, 19 min.)
Ru (Water is Life) is a story about the strength, joy and resilience of the people of South Sudan, seen through the eyes of a young girl, who have somehow adapted to a nation plagued with the threat of civil war. Two months after filming Ru, South Sudan became a free nation. The doors to bring fresh water to the world's newest country are wide-open. For most in South Sudan, the trek for water is an arduous daily journey. For every Sudanese, water is life.
