How to Make It In a World of Mad Men
Like to write but hate your day job? Why not become the next real life Peggy Olsen and kickstart a career in copywriting? In this class, TBWA/Chiat/Day's Lauren Smith will show you how to think like a professional copywriter and harness your inner advertising genius. She'll show you how to write irresistible print ads and engaging web copy. Through fun homework assignments and targeted workshopping sessions, you'll learn how to brainstorm clever concepts and avoid the rookie mistakes. By the end of this class, you'll have crafted a stellar piece for your sample book and a have strong understanding of what it takes to make it in this competitive business. Skinny tie and hat not included.

She is an expert in advertising for television, digital and social mediums. Her clients include Kraft, Visa, Pepsi, Nissan, Infiniti, Honda, Acura, Sara Lee, Hillshire Farm, Pedigree, Mandalay Bay, SOYJOY, La-Z-Boy and PENTAX. For those clients, she's blogged as an out-of-work crab, given dogs everywhere the voice of David Duchovny, written a comic-book adventure for one of the first-ever iAds, and become the inner voice for a brigade of battling soy beans, the most comfortable furniture in the world, and the first-ever mass-market 100% electric car. Lauren's work has been featured in advertising publications and books. She also blogs as "la" on http://www.laliadverts.wordpress.com, one of "two ad girls trying to make it in a world of mad men." She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from the Honors College at the University of Michigan.
