Meet Sister Lucy in Seattle: Maher's Model of Hope for Oppressed Women & Children
You will learn how community based programs organically emerge to address the root causes of poverty and gender violence. Maher has spawned over 500 self groups in the region as well as offering vocational training for the battered or abandoned women who arrive at the homes for safety and refuge. You will learn about the programs that get at the roots of gender violence and poverty. You will learn of Maher's inclusive and deeply inter-spiritual community, across all castes, ages and abilities. (One facility brings mentally ill, developmentally delayed, aged and children together in loving community.) You will learn how underneath it all is unconditional love, 'Divine love in action' with compassion, hospitality, nutritious food for all.
Co-host Susan Partnow spent some time at Maher earlier this year. "I have visited communities across the US and around the world and I have never experienced anything like Maher: the joy on the faces of the children, staff and women; the tender care of the traumatized recent arrivals, the powerful wholehearted welcoming of all and the deep spirit of unconditional love that pervades every action and every space was astounding." Come meet Sr Lucy and witness the magic of Maher.
