Ballet Folklórico Mestizo is celebrating its 32nd year in Oxnard. The troupe was established in 1981 by students and faculty interested in promoting Mexican culture through music and dance. The dance troupe is made up of college students, OC alumni, educators, and professionals who take pride in educating as well as entertaining their audiences while keeping the culture and traditions of Mexico alive. The Ballet Folklórico Mestizo aims to transmit the elegance, joyfulness, and vibrancy of Mexico's culture to their audience.
Ballet Folklorico Nueva Antequera was founded by Miriam López and Raul Cortés. Nueva Antequera offers it support via dance presentations and cultural events for the Oaxacan community. Among their most memorable accomplishments are performances at the Getty Center, the Ford Amphitheater in Hollywood, and the Autry Museum of Art.
The collaboration was born when Celso Guevara, a Mestizo dancer and member of MICOP's Board of Directors, approached both organizations to join forces in supporting MICOP and promoting his Mexican indigenous culture through dance. "We are thrilled to have the support of the Ballet Folklorico Mestizo and Nueva Antequera," said MICOP Executive Director Margaret Sawyer. "We admire their work of cultural promotion, and it is an honor that they have chosen to help our organization in this way."
We look forward to seeing you at this very special event!
Sincerely,
MICOP Board of Directors
