The art of storytelling comes naturally to musician/author/storyteller Johnny Cuomo. Collecting stories from his travels and interests, Johnny combines these with his musical talents to unfold tales of nature, birds, animals and stories from near and afar.
As a volunteer teacher on the Barona and Viejas Indian Reservations in California, Johnny developed a special connection with the Native American culture, which has enriched his abilities as a storyteller of Indian tales. While living and attending school in Ireland, Johnny learned rst hand about the Irish culture and music, which sent him on a path to forming his own traditional Irish band, Gallowglass, performing all over the US and abroad.
Johnny is the proud author of his rst childrens book, MOON-GLOW, and a childrens album of music and stories entitled STORYSONGS. He holds a Masters Degree in Liberal Studies from Stony Brook University and a B.A. in Elementary Education and History from Dowling College.
Cuomo is also a folk-avored acoustic roots artist, with inuences in rock and traditional Irish music. His Dylanesque voice follows the tradition of Roger McGuinn and Tom Petty in capturing the essential emotion of the American musical spirit from its core beginnings to present. From his rock band, Voice of the Turtle, in the 90s, to his immersion into the Irish music scene, up to present, Johnnys musical style has ourished into one that fuses modern folk rock with an innovative Irish twist. Johnnys rst release on the Paradiddle Records label, American Idle, as well as his featured tracks on several of the labels compilations can be found at http://www.paradiddlerecords.com/
Johnny has made numerous trips back to Ireland in the past years, not only to keep current with his traditional playing, but to bring his own simple, organic blend of folk/rock music to Dublin fans who have given him much respect. He has played for audiences of more than 350 at various pubs and venues in Dublin, including Whelans, Vicar Streetand The Cobblestone, where he had the honor of doing a support gig for Australias favorite guitarist, Tommy Emmanuel, and Dublins own Whirlygig.
